Celebrate 50 years of Averitt Express, and find out how the company came to be.
It began in 1958 when Thurman Averitt founded the Livingston Merchants Co-op. It was a small trucking company that hauled dry goods between Nashville and Livingston. 11 years later, Thurman incorporated the company, and called it Averitt Express. He met a man named Gary Sasser who asked him one day if he would be interested in selling his company. In October 1971, Gary Sasser at the age of 21 purchased Averitt Express. 50 years later, the company continues to grow. Phil Pierce is Executive Vice President for Sales and Marketing for Averitt.
